TOLU'S DIARY - DECLINE IN MARRIAGE

DECLINE IN MARRIAGE

Hi diary,
After a long day at work, I retired home to my bed to get some rest. I tried to close my eyes but couldn’t zoom off to sleep as I listened to conversation from a saloon which was a block away from my residence. I have heard several romantic and sexual stories from this frequency (saloon) but today’s discussion by the ladies struck my mind as if Thor was in action.
’My baby boy will clock six tomorrow, I have catered for him all alone through these years, so why will I stay under one man’s roof in the name of marriage’’ an anonymous sonorous voice said. ‘’Singlehood is so sweet; you would be free like a bird, chase your dream without disturbance and enjoy life to the fullest. If our society questions you, show them the number of marriages in which their wedding rings has been thrown into the lagoon’’ another said. ‘’…but God’s mandate for his handwork is to be fruitful and multiply’’ another jumped in as I turned, trying to adjust my antenna. ‘’which planet are you from madam? When there are several means of procreation. With medical science, you would be pregnant without the joystick. That’s if you really don’t want a baby father’’ if I don’t know any other voice, I think I know this, it’s from the saloon owner. With these, I confirmed that the marriage institution is declining in our society. Three out of the four speakers were sick of ‘’marriage’’. I knew in my mind that the apprentices who were silent were well fed.
In truth, these ladies have found alternatives to living as a couple just like the opposite sex. Men are the best subscriber to these at this very age. All you have to do is to have a baby mama to procreate. Sex is never a big deal because at a wink of an eye, you would have access to ladies at any rate. You might don’t want to become a chef, the array of fast foods and restaurants have been feeding mouths since ages past. If the benefits of getting married are enjoyed then there should be a way out to make marriage worth it. In this regard, I felt there should be something that would make guys sees sense in the marital institution. I felt friendship could be a way out. If we could have a friend not a husband/wife who would serve as the heart beat for which life depends, then marriage would worth it. A friend with whom you could build the Tower of Babel together; set goals, chase dreams and accomplish it. A friend with whom you will not get tired come rain, come sunshine. A friend with whom marriage is not an institution, but eternal life. Diary, you are lifeless, you could have been a perfect friend. Blue, black or red ink, you have never quit. All you have to do now is to make your realize marriage still worth it. Well, I can see you brimming with smiles. See you again guys. Gracias!

TOLU'S DIARY - BROTHER'S KEEPER

Hi diary,

I have brought you words in verses to help make this world a better place for you and me. It is titled ‘’Brother’s Keeper’’ and it goes thus:

                                                                     As sepals to a flower;
                                                                    Be your brother’s keeper
                                                                    As food is to the sower;
                                                                  Never eat alone, it does matter
                                                                Breakfast, lunch, dinner or supper;
                                                                 Never let another mouth be a filter.

                                                                       As balm of Gilead to a healer;
                                                                          Be your brother’s keeper
                                                                      If it is a thorn, be the remover;
                                                                       Never let him tread on danger
                                                                           In your tongues lies power;
                                                                     Lift his soul and make him stronger.

                                                                            As the Lord is a strong tower;
                                                                             Be your brother’s keeper
                                                                           As a city is guarded by soldier;
                                                                        Watch the back of your brother
                                                                      Life was given to you as a partaker;
                                                                        Don’t put another’s life on the wire.

                                                              As lions get their families covered;
                                                                    Be your brother’s keeper
                                                             As a lonely animal against a pack suffer;
                                                     Will you hurt your brothers to be a lone ranger?
                                                           All you have was given, not by your power;
                                           Will you flex your muscle and not heed to these words brother?

It has been an awesome day with you diary. Remember to be your brother’s keeper. See you again soon by His grace. Adios!

TOLU'S DIARY - TRENDS

TUESDAYS 10AM

                                                         TRENDS

Hey diary,
Since you can’t tell me what ‘Trend’ is about, then I have to gist you properly on this topic. Twitter seems to own the word ‘Trend’ as hash tags make news and information at a particular time spread throughout the world at a click. Well, trend is just a port on the twitter platform. Trend means the popular taste (fashion, business, politics etc) at a given time; a general tendency or direction. Trend is a basic word in the fashion world which means vogue/style. It is what people do or talk about at a particular time. Diary, if you must achieve a goal this year, then make us trend.
I have an old picture of my maternal grandfather in my album. Whenever I look at it, I smile. His trousers were so big that he could hide his partner in case a fight breaks out in the club. This was a particular trend in fashion in the 70s & 80s. This style caught the attention of our great grandmothers but won’t do any magic now. These days, skin tight trousers that need the help of another hand in pulling off are in vogue. Another trend in the fashion world is that of crazy jeans, torn tops (Kanye West’s Yeezy; a trend setter), lacerated outfits or whatever the name given to them. Years ago, clothes like these are made for the waste bin and incinerators. Nigeria is on the world map when it comes to entertainment. Our dance steps have been trendy from time to time. Shoki, Shaku-Shaku, Zanku etc. at one point in time have got people moving in their direction. Trends belong majorly to the youths but the oldies these days can’t but be on top of their game too.
Trend is one of the keyword in this age. You just have to be a trendsetter or a trend follower.  As the world revolves, so you have to revolve with it or else, the world would ground you. You have to be in vogue and stay at the top of your game. Those who have achieved greater things in this life are trendsetters; those with ideas rule the world. If you cannot be a trendsetter then you be a follower to be trendy. If you can’t beat them, join them so they say. You just have to be updated and get more knowledge of your world. Diary, won’t you help us trend? It has been a great time with you here. Till next time, remain trendy. Adios

TOLU DIARY - THE COMMENT SECTION

TUESDAYS 10 AM

THE COMMENT SECTION: A LESSON

Hi diary,
Gone are the days when the Yorubas refer to a radio station as a media without feedbacks. Well, my translation might not be perfect but the idea is that you can’t get a feedback from this medium of information. Information are now been received as well as replies from the public through phones. Radio and Television were old medium of passing information. The advent of social media has made information passed easier. Now the broadcasting stations both radio and televisions has social media platforms. The comment sections of these social media is a means of sharing views on a particular subject been posted. It is the feedback section of platforms such as twitter, facebook, instagram and so on.
Millions of stories, pictures and videos are posted on these platforms daily. Comment section is where friends, enemies, followers and so on get to react to whatever that is been posted. To those that surf the web, it’s a place where they are entertained and informed. It is a place where different minds get to show their thoughts. It is a place where people like celebrities also get feedback from their followers. The comment sections also make a post interesting and lively. It is the life of a social media.
One thing I have discovered surfing the web is that the comment section is made of pessimists and the optimists. Just like the world is made of the good and the bad, such is this world too. No matter how positive the post, there will always be a negative comment. If it is a negative post too, there will also be encouragers. If you post a picture of your new car, you will likely see someone saying the car tyres are second hand. Post a picture of burnt house, another will say it is the picture of the day because the owner is an armed robber. From here, I learnt you have to be yourself whatever others say about you. You don’t have to live life based on what people say about you. There are people who have been depressed and hurt by people’s thought. Well it is good to get people talking about you but make sure you don’t fall because of what people say. It is one of the doses of living life well. Remember you only live once. Live it well diary. See you again but don’t forget to drop a comment. We are covered.

TOLU'S DIARY - HELPING HANDS

HELPING HANDS

Hi diary,

It’s so good to have you as a voice to help make the world a better place. I’m always marveled when I see a team set up by Pep Guardiola; Manchester City Football Club coach. For me, it’s a model for team work as every member of the team has a part in every moves to attack the opponent and score goals. Tiki-taka is the system used in this regard to bring the best out of every player in the team. It is a short passing style in which the ball is worked carefully through various channels on the pitch. It also involves patience and ball possession is above everything in this system of play. I’m not to analyze football as a pundit would do but to pick a lesson of life from this system which won sextuple for the FC Barcelona side of 2009 as well as the Euros and World cup for the Spanish national team in 2008 and 2012 respectively.

There are lessons learnt from this philosophy as the weakest player in the team evolves to be a better player by the help of teammates and the rhythm of play. The rhythm of play could be likened to a favorable condition which allows all to reach their potentials. I believed we would all do well in life if we have a helping hand as no one is born without something deposited in him/her. No wonder the goalie in a tiki-taka system is of importance as the build-up starts from him despite that his work is to save goals. There are so many talented individuals just like Lionel Messi who thrived very well as a result of freedom in the final third of the pitch in this system. Most of these talents in our society have found it difficult to thrive because there are no help for them. It’s a pity when those who are supposed to serve as a conduit to others have blocked the two outlets. Life is so good when you have someone to leverage on.  We all need a hand to get to the top as those who are up there were once helped. It’s so good when you die but yet lived on; when many people can truly say you are part of their successes. Life is sweet like tiki-taka when we get to the top together.

You don’t have to have it all to help others. No matter your level in life, you can still help someone stands to his/her feet. Life is satisfying when we render services to humanity. Kudos to those who are giving to charity, NGOs/volunteer groups doing their best to save lives and other individuals who deem it fit to cater for the needs of others. ‘’Blessed is he who has regard for the weak, the Lord delivers him in times of trouble’’ my daily guide says so. Diary, won’t you help to raise a hand today?  What a joy we would have standing on the podium to receive medals together as a winner. See you again readers, do your best to make the world a better place. Hugs and kisses.

TOLU'S DIARY- KEEPING FIT

Tuesdays 10am

KEEPING FIT

Dear diary,

I have read on different social media platforms where people especially ladies writes ‘Body Goals’. I’m conversant with people setting goals in businesses, career, jobs, home etc. but not body goals. Body goals is another shot at goal through keeping fit that ricochets the goalpost before hitting the back of the net. Ladies wants to have figure eight, flat tummy and those with excessive weights wants to reduce too. Years ago, one of my facebook friends always send into my inbox a link on how to reduce weight. He didn’t stop until I replied one day ‘’If I lose weight, I will be kidnapped by breeze sir’’. Well, no matter the size of your body, you have to keep fit. I have heard slim people saying they don’t need to keep fit because they are already slim fit. These people are only deceiving themselves. Keeping fit shouldn’t be until you set body goals; it should be a routine just as you eat food.
It is not until you lift a 1000kg weight or perform legwork on a treadmill only, that you are considered to be keeping fit. It starts from your little exercises at home. Some people who have maids at home have been so relaxed that their hands couldn’t hold anything made. You could trek short distances like walking to and fro in your compound because you might not be able to jug the length of your neighborhood like Ethiopian long distance race legend; Haile Gebrselassie. Those who have been sanctioned to the gym as a result of doctor’s report have a case with keeping fit. Hmm! You don’t have to be a fighter, athlete or body guard to hit the gym. Well, you can bet a push up challenge with me despite my gangling structure.
There are numerous benefits of keeping fit. It reduces bad cholesterol, it makes you sleep better which in turn helps to think sharply, it improves self-esteem, reduces blood pressure, decreases back pain, increases metabolic rate, increases functional strength, improves sex drive, reduces risk of heart disease and cancer, strengthens bones, improves confidence and help you reach your potential. Let me sound a warning; don’t be too lazy to carry your body. Keep fit and pile up the six figures both in body and currency. Diary, breathes in, and then breathes out. Oops! Diary is lifeless. Well, let whosoever that has breathe take it up. See you again lovers.

Tolu's Diary - ORGAN OF PHILANDERING

Tuesdays 10am

ORGAN OF PHILANDERING

 Hi diary,
I could have used ‘Organ of Flirting’ as the headline if not for Nollywood’s actor; Bolanle Ninalowo who mentioned ‘Philandering’ severally in the movie ‘Picture Perfect’. This synonym for flirting therefore became my choice. It is well known that married men, women, single guys and ladies flirts. Well, you could argue there are higher percentages in sexes or ages but that is not the purpose of this writing but the initial organ in philandering which is the eyes.
The eye is the organ of sight which majors on philandering when it comes to relationships. The eye is a complex optical system which collects lights from the environment and through assembly of lenses which forms images. These images are converted into a set of electrical signals and then transmitted to the brain. Like other sense organs (ear, nose, skin, tongue), the eye and brain works pari passu. The eye is of high importance when they say ‘love at first sight’ or ‘lust at first sight’. We are attracted to someone through their color, shape, size, facial look etc even though attitude, charisma and so on can come into play in attractiveness. We are attracted to appearance as a result of images formed in our eyes which is then transmitted to the brain that processes it in our minds. Your mind determines if you are in love or in lust with someone your eyes are sexually attracted to. It is often said that ‘men are moved by sight while the opposite sex are moved by hearing’. These days, women are merely moved by what they hear but what they see for you to know how powerful the organ of philandering is. They are moved by finer things and papers called currencies.
The organ of philandering is powerful, no wonder moralists warn against pornography and other sexual explicit videos. We all know the eye is the organ of philandering. It was even recorded in the Holy Bible ‘if your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it’. Huh! You are saying preacher man is asking you to pluck your eyes, NO! I just want you to see the cause of our (men) sexual appetite. Well, readers it’s left for you to decide how to deal with your eyes for your own good. As for me, my eyes shall not see evil. It’s been an engaging day; I thank God for the gift of sight. See you again dear diary, love you unintentionally.

TOLU'S DIARY

TUESDAYS 10AM

Hey diary,
It’s been a while I serve you my juice in a tumbler of poetry. Here is my expression of the thoughts on ‘life’. It goes thus:

I fell in love with life
I never knew it wasn’t devoid of strife
I’d pampered it as a newly wedded wife
Roses in thorns; huh! It was a strive

Raindrops from the eyes
Bruises on feet yet on hike
Wondered if the Viking would survive the ice
Hmm! It became tough as skin and hide

A new approach to resist reproach
Hired archers because life I need to poach
Yet it’s tough as a journey on a ramshackle coach
I heard ‘’the battle is not mine, it belongs to my coach’’.

See you again next week. Kindly let me know your thoughts about life readers. Hugs and kisses.

TOLU'S DIARY - CLASSIC MAN

TUESDAYS 10AM

                                  CLASSIC MAN

Have you heard Jidenna’s hit song ‘Classic man’ ? The Nigerian-American singer said continuously ‘I’m a classic man’. Just as he said in his lyrics, he was truly a classic man; simple, stylish and highly revered.

Classic according to the Oxford dictionary means; of recognized high quality, or simple in style. Wouldn't you like to have a classic man with this attributes?

A classic man is respected; no wonder the statement; ‘you are addressed the way you dress’. It is not only about putting on the most expensive clothes and accessories but looking sharp and fly. Do you know the feeling when a man alights from a black mustang (I’m so in love with Tommy Egan’s ride in the movie series ‘Power’), with a nice look to match a well-tailored outfit? I know you are dripping and want to associate with that kind of man. This is called ‘The Magic of the classic man’. A classic man is not of quality only in his container but also in content. A classic man is responsible, strong (physically, spiritually and emotionally), mature and honorable (if you're thinking other attributes asides from the one listed, you are with me 😉). No wonder a lady claimed our youth leader proposed to her even though when there has been no known contact between the pair. Hmm! He was a classic man.

Mr. Man, do your best to make use of the year in a classy style. Dress well, look clean, get something doing, get more knowledge, keep on with the hustle, be responsible, do your best to save the world and enjoy life till it ends. Remember you only live once, once is enough if you live it well.

 Get me my iPod; let me play ‘classic man’ again😁

See you again diary.

TOLU'S DIARY - WHY NOT TRY AGAIN?

TUESDAYS 10AM

WHY NOT TRY AGAIN?

Hi diary,
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you need to reach someone on the phone for business and your network keeps on saying ‘not reachable at the moment?’, The fact that the line pronounced not reachable means there is hope, especially if it is a matter of transactions. I trust your fingers won’t deviate from the green button; you will keep trying till you reach the dollar bills server at the end of the call. If we truly desire to achieve the best out of this life, we have to keep trying.
There is this saying “the best things in life don't come cheap”. Therefore persistence, consistency, determination and focus are vital keys to success. It doesn’t matter how much we try, we are only celebrated when the outcome is desirable. Thomas Edison; the great scientist tried again and again before becoming successful on his renowned project. Several notable great men have the same story of trying again including ex American president; Abraham Lincoln. Readers, we must not stop a quarter to glory, we must try again.
Why not try again? You have almost hit the gold. Will you allow someone else to claim that innovation just like the Wright Brothers did? Will you quit when you are almost crowned the champion? Will you stop to write when your ink is about to prevent that man from suicide or depression? Will you leave that best song ever to be enjoyed only by your intestines, heart, veins and arteries just because you have failed before? Will you allow that mediocre to rule over your kinsmen? Why not try again readers?
See you again next week by His grace.

TOLU'S DIARY - WHY ARE LADIES SHOCKED DURING PROPOSALS?

TUESDAYS 10AM

          WHY ARE LADIES SHOCKED DURING PROPOSALS?
Hi diary,
It’s the season of love! St. Valentines’ day is celebrated every 14th of February to mark the lovers’ day. Old lovers especially the so-called busy types use this time to hang out with their partners. New lovers are enchanted by the season as everyone turns a poet or postman as they write romantic lines and deliver lovely gifts to their partner. One of the best gifts that can be given during this period is that which your partner has to reply ‘yes, I do’.
I saw some folks at an eatery sometime ago. The man proposed to his lady and I was surprised to see the lady shocked as she also screamed. My younger brother once asked me, ‘why are ladies shocked during proposals? It’s as if the ladies brains are always on tour during the dating’, he concluded jokingly. I laughed and also shared my views on the subject. I assume for you to have been dating someone and it’s a serious one, you don’t have to be shocked when your man proposes to you. It might be a thing of joy if you consider yourself finally off the market. I suggested and replied “the lady might be a ‘Methuselah’ in the relationship. She must have been in that relationship for ages past so she has to be surprised”. In this regard, electric shock could be allowed.
It is traditional for the man to make a proposal to a woman directly while genuflecting in front of her. It involves the formal asking of the question “will you marry me?” and the presentation of an engagement ring.
 I believe the man should be the shocked party if the woman declined. The woman is likely to decline a proposal for various reasons. Well, as one of my friend will say “is it your shock?”. On a serious note, can my female readers tell me the reason for the shock displayed during proposals? I’m looking forward to your feedbacks.
See you again guys.

TOLU'S DIARY - NEW YEAR NEW SYSTEM

EVERY TUESDAY 10AM

                              NEW YEAR, NEW SYSTEM

Hey diary,

There is this particular quote which says “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. Yes, this statement is true. Thomas Edison was said to have tried one thousand times to finally invent a light bulb yet he didn’t get that done using the same method I believed.  I guessed the phrase ‘New Year, New system’ was adopted so as to try things in different ways in order to get different results.

  One of the things I learnt from my uncle was him telling me severally “you have to see things in different perspectives even if the first sight looks good”. You might have tried out certain opportunities but they are not yielding the results you expect. Why not try out another system?

As a salesman, things might be hard but why not try the impossible option to get your prospects to be customers? As an undergraduate trying all your best to pass that hard course, why not prepare in another dimension? As a politician, you might have failed to get that position of power, why not use another tactics to get the support you want? If your attempt in mobilizing is yielding little result, you can try a more rigid or advanced approach. A part of the lyrics of an Afro pop-act; Adekunle Gold goes thus; “I fit change my style for you”. Why not change your style to get that dream car, job, woman or man?! Well, if you have determined to achieve whatever you’ve desired for the New Year, try to change the system that hasn’t worked in the past year. Try a different approach and you will have no reproach.

  It’s a New Year and I’m also trying a new system. If hard work must pay, your system must come to play. I’m not trying many things at the same time but doing the things I know how to do very well in a different way. Let's get things working again by trying different means. When action is added, I see the cliché ‘New Year, New system’ becoming ‘New Year, New System, and New Achievement’.

Bring it on! bring it on!! again I say bring it on!!! We are conquering and breaking limits this year.

See you again readers.

TOLU'S DIARY - NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

TUESDAYS 10AM

NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

Hi diary,

Another 365 days has rolled by and we are in another year. The clock has started to tick again without waiting for no one as usual. The past year might have been good, better, best or the reverse for people. The New Year is another stage set to beat the previous record in the last year.
A new calendar year can be likened to a race by an athlete. Whether as a record holder or a mere participant, he/she wants to do more than the previous race. Preparation is of necessity to be successful, so, whatever the athlete hasn’t done well in his/her past endeavor is taken into keen consideration which may be; the starting style, acceleration, exchange of baton (as done in a relay race) or the finishing. In this same way, we prepare for another journey of 365days by bringing to the discussion table what is tagged ‘New Year Resolutions’.
Resolution in this context means great determination. You want to become a CEO, start and fund your business(es), graduate against all odds, raise a beautiful home with your partner, buy the most beautiful and classy cars you can think about and excel your dreams. Things may not have fallen into place in the last race and you might have spotted one or two things that served as obstacles (like in hurdles), which made all these impossible to achieve in the past year(s). We therefore look forward to the New Year to device strategies to jump over the obstacles on the way to the finishing line and that is Resolution. There is a great determination to raise the bar and excel your expectations.
To some people; they have to cultivate the habit of saving, to some it may be putting a stop to whatever they considered bad that has been dragging them back and to some, it is to double their hustle (more hard work) and so on.
Winning requires great determination and focus. In this regard, many people have quit this race of resolution before the journey gathers momentum. They couldn’t keep to their words because there was no determination to support their thoughts. The spectators' chants (boos or appraisals) has affected such athlete in the race of resolution. We just have to turn deaf ears to appraisals in form of mockery, use the boos as a parameter to step up the game so as to finish off well. We have to do all our best to kick out laziness, procrastination, thrash those unhealthy habits, shoot that shot, make those seemingly impossible moves, drop that addiction that pulls us back and I see us having the best year ever!
Happy New Year readers enjoy 2019 and remember "tick says the clock, what you have to do, do quickly". Whatever is your New Year Resolution, you must keep to it💪

TOLU'S DIARY

TUESDAYS 10AM
Dear diary,

I’ve brought you another juicy package in form of poetry for this week’s episode. It is titled ‘Work’. It goes thus:
                                                    Haphazardly it goes,
                                                    With claws and not toes,
                                                    Deep into the earth as a hoe,
                                                    All for a work in the hole,
                                                    Mining minerals like coal,
                                            The crab worked and has oil in its bowl.

                                                    Go to the ants you sluggard,
                                                    Learn her ways you haggard,
                                                    Listen! Idleness is a hazard,
                                                    It will make you ragged,
                                                    Lazy man why are you so rugged?
                                               Get to work and don’t be a duck head

                                                    Hard work pays laziness slays,
                                                  Tick! Tick!! Tick!!! The clock says,
                                                    No time to sleep no time to lay,
                                                    Soft work will be a day pay,
                                                    Work with the sun and not its ray,
                                 Work your socks off and you will never derail.

                                                    Work while you work,
                                                     Later you can talk
                                                     Laziness you should tuck
                                                     Never wait for Mr. Luck
                                                     Papers on trees you will pluck
                                                     But do you care for alert in bulk?
                                                     Then you must get to work.

Dear diary, give me feedbacks please with your favorite line in the poem titled ‘work’. See you later diary, you know I can’t wait to kiss and hug you. Love you!!!

TOLU'S DIARY

TUESDAYS 10AM

Hi diary,

I can see you are already raising your eyebrows. Words written on this orange diary is soothing, educating and interesting. Last week, I was watching a football match in a viewing center. My argument there formed the basis of my reflection for this week. The camera focused on a woman tying headgears and wearing local attires in the front seat of the stadium. Two guys at the viewing center laughed scornfully and said ‘’Nigerians are sh*ts, can you see what she’s putting on?’’ other guys joined to lash the woman on screen as if she would ever respond to them. ‘’she is the most dressed in there, she is a Nigerian then why must she dress like a Scottish’’ I argued.

We have sidelined so many things that belonged to us in exchange for the ‘whites’. We’ve imported language, religion, dressing, food, etc. and have made us inferior in many ways. Some guys will even abuse the black players on TV forgetting they are a replica. Most of us fail to patronize made-in-Naija products even if they have good qualities yet, we want our economy to rise even when it is not BP. We laughed at people who failed in speaking English language and even go as far as creating meme; our only goods we could export on social media. This generation hardly know about our heroes past but Abraham Lincoln, Michael Jackson, James Bond who they claimed to be their relatives from Abakaliki. English is our national language but how I wish my diary could come in Yoruba with some lines that will make you dripping like okra soup. I believe in the brand ‘Nigeria’. Let us do well to grow her by supporting what belongs to us. We have been doing well but we can still do better. I’m so proud to be from Naija; our land is the closest to the creator’s abode. Lest I forget diary, I picked ‘agbada gang’ instead of ‘men-in-suit’ for an upcoming wedding. With my agbada, I can surely pack many goodies under my robes. Now you know what am saying. Diary, you look good in this green and white background. Catch you later guys.

TOLU'S DIARY

TUESDAYS 10AM

Dear diary,
I was so emotional this week. Sorry I have to wet you with my tears. A man who was shot by an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) finally gave up the ghost despite making it to the hospital on time. Let me shock you, medical personnel didn’t attend to him because of #3,500 gloves. This is the situation of our healthcare system. Many souls have been lost in the hospital due to these questionable reasons. Aren’t doctors and nurses meant to play their own quota in saving lives?
 How long will medical personnels continue to abandon their work for irrelevant matters? When will they start to urgently treat patients on emergency rather than asking for hospital card and other things? When will human lives matter to them than bills? Why are our systems in this country all going wrong?
Who else will help to lend a voice to heal our land? No wonder many of her citizens are pledging allegiance to other nations. We have to fix the city and not flee the city. ‘No place be like my country’ Ebenezer Obey sang in his old record.
 Diary, we have to make this line become factual. Let everybody play their part in raising the giant of Africa; Nigeria. Let's join hands to save her. See you again guys, love you.

TOLU'S DIARY

TUESDAYS 10AM

Hey diary,
I came through with a poem this week titled ‘Friend’. I know you want to know about my ideal friend. Read and share your views afterwards.

Chuck! Chuck!!  Chuck!!!
She is an epitome of excellence and gladness.
When I say ha…she knows I'm about to say happiness.
Life they say is like a roller coaster;
With her it’s like a helicopter.

Ding dong! Ding dong!! Ding dong!!!
I don’t need to ask, she is the one at the door.
I know her so much even when she is at war.
Just like cattle and cattle egret we live in tandem.
We were configured and set up like the city of the lord called Jerusalem.
Like a dual SIM we are twins from different parents.
On our home to excellence, we will never pay a rent.

Roar! Roar!! Roar!!!
She doesn’t hesitate to chastise me whenever I'm  going astray.
I learn from her because of my teach-ability skill and I never flare.
Like Tom and Jerry we slog it out, despite that we, have a common goal.
She is so precious to me, she is more than the mineral resources mined in Udi Hills called coal.
A friend in need is a friend indeed.
Friendship is a choice, we are friends indeed.

TOLU'S DIARY

TUESDAYS 10AM

Hi diary,
So good to be here once again. Saw my brother reading this week as if his life depends on it. Guy nearly turned me to a chef as I have to cook to make up for the sapping calories. This took me back to my undergraduate days.
 Our educational system especially is well below standard as it should be when compared to other nations of the world. Lecturers give out massive materials which you have to read and understand on your own.
Some of them that has made it to the lecture theatre will present theories they don’t understand themselves. All we need to do as students is to dance to the tune; read to pass.
 This is one of the reasons we have unemployable graduates these days. I remember cramming about forty species of insects and their botanical nomenclature in a course titled ‘Entomology’ even without seeing the insects for once. It was during this period I knew the human brain cannot be full like a memory card.
Many things has to be fixed to be up there again. Our universities produced great men in the past who have contributed immensely to our society when the administration and system was adjudged fair.
 Let all parties involved (especially the governing bodies) go back to the drawing board and save our dying educational system.

 Diary, remind me to ask for my brother’s CGPA. All these food must produce a strong point. See you again guys.
