 Spy Candy by Nigerian-born American singer; Jidenna featuring African Bad Girl; Tiwa Savage came through the lounge with appealing lyrical contents. Spy Candy, off Jidenna’s Boomerang EP is a romantic story arc focusing on the paranoia that often comes with relationship. Produced by Nana Kwabena with a synch-driven beat, the artistes did well to spice the candy.

   The first three lines of the first verse by Jidenna were catchy coupled with his good vocals.

                                     In a hotel with a broken glass

                                     I fell in love with a perfect ass

                                 This kind of love is ain’t built to last

He repeated afterwards ‘you know it’ to let us know the first and second line were really a situation of Spy Candy. He then permitted his love to spy on him by saying:

                                ‘You follow me; I am your spy candy’

 This leads to the chorus which keeps the listener on replay mode.

                                      Everybody wanna follow

                                                Spy candy

                                    You spy on me sometimes

                                       I spy on you sometimes

 Tiwa Savage’s sonorous voice adds bite to the music. The melody is strong and tuneful. Her vocal tone was attractive as she kept the listeners in awe with her story. She revealed the information she had gathered from her Spy Candy.

                                I saw you went home for the holidays

                  With your brand new car and your brand new baby                                                              And that will be your first love since I went away

She explained she couldn’t quit him because of the bonds they had shared. Tiwa’s part was not complete without her rendering the chorus. It was sweet.

                                      We know the same people

                                           It’s hard to see you

                           You cannot hide, you are my spy candy

   Jidenna opened the last verse in emphatic fashion. The verse continued with catchy lyrics to express his thoughts on the relationship.

                        I only travel with you in the virtual, baby

                  You popping up when I don’t even search for you, baby

                   I should prolly (probably) turn off all my alert for you, baby

                                                   But no

The lyrical contents in this lounge were so sweet. No wonder the artistes said:

          ‘’We can’t escape the famous life candy, you are so sweet’’.

LYRICIST LOUNGE - ORIGINAL BABY BY SIMI

Lyricist lounge chose Simi’s ‘Original Baby’ off the self-titled album ‘Simisola’. This sixth track ‘Original Baby’ passed a message on being yourself no matter the circumstance or situation you find yourself. Simi said No to living as a replica of someone else as she portrayed her originality in her sonorous voice. Lyricist lounge found the lyrical content catching, you have to relate with the words therein.

The songstress kicked off in style as she portrayed her being in the first verse. The lyrics were in English and Pidgin English.

                          I’m just an ordinary girl, sitting in the hallway

                         I no dey (I don’t) turn up, cause I’m a little boring

                       But I’m the life of the party because I’m kinda funny

                          Money don’t drive me, I drive my money, yeah

The pre-chorus had Simi admitting to her originality. She came up with thoughtful lines as she said:

                        Everything is not for everyone and that is okay

                                           You gotta take me as I am

                           I’ll be better but I’ll never be somebody else

The chorus which was an anthem gave some advice. It came with tips for being original.  Lyricist lounge couldn’t be carried away by the songstress’ voice so we had to stick with the pure lyrics.

                                    Yeah, whatever you do, you better be true

You get to know more about the song writer as verse two came with short crazy lines.

The final verse continued the tempo as well as the exciting lyrics.

Lyricist lounge was thrilled as the chorus ends this top chart music. The lyrical content could be related to as it helped reduce some stress. Lyricist lounge has this so original.

LYRICIST LOUNGE - Suited – Shekhinah featuring Mr Eazi

Suited – Shekhinah featuring Mr Eazi

 The lounge cannot but be cozy as South African songstress; Shekhinah teamed up with Mr. Eazi to render butterfly-feeling lines on the song titled ‘Suited’. This was a remix of the 2017 hit by the Sony Music song bird; Shekhinah. The remix had a slower pace compared to the original song and the lyrical content by both songwriters were top notch as they were rendered effortlessly by the African acts.

The anthem kicked off with Mr. Eazi’s signature line ‘Zagadat’. You already know the talented singer is about to blow the MIC afterwards. A little hum by the song bird; Shekhinah paved way for Mr. Eazi’s lines which were rendered in English and Yoruba languages. He claimed he is suited for this love by choosing these words:

 Lotun losi o (left and right)

 Morning and the night

 Laro lale o (morning and night)

We do the time lean on the line

Your love is mine, you cannot divide

Baby you dot my eye

Cause you know say (that) you be (are) my design

Shekhinah bounced on her song in emphatic fashion. Her do-re-mi game was on point. She said:

When we talked on phone and you said that you love me

Did you say that just for show yeah

I wanna scream from the top of the rooftop

Tell you that my love for you

I keep on rewind

I struggle to find

You worser to find

She then repeated ‘what a love, what a love yeah’ severally to confirm how suited the love is. Her last two lines were really a punch line.

                                     Tailor made I’m glued up on my lover yeah

                                      Never lose him to another yeah.

Mr. Eazi then repeated his earlier verse which was the chorus. This led to the second verse by Shekhinah. She is well suited for this love as she said:

                                        See I just really miss you yeah

                                        And I’m forever in time to you

                                        Somehow I just stay glued to you

                                           I wanna , gotta get away

                                           So we play husband and wife

                                             You take the keys to my life

                                       I know we’re just a little young yeah

                                And having just a little time too much fun, baby

Mr. Eazi brought the song to a close saying ‘Baby you dot my eye, dot my eye’.

Lyrical lounge was suited for this kind of lyrics. Just as Shekhinah pointed out, ‘It’s just something we both know, suited for each other’.

Lyricist lounge focuses on the work of legendary Nigerian singer; 2baba as his reggae tune dubbed ‘’Holy Holy’’  came through with dashing lyrical contents. "Holy Holy"  is a conscious tune which sends a message to people who always point accusing fingers at others as though their lives are perfect. 2baba maintained his legendary status with these voluminous lyrical contents which the lounge cannot but relate to line by line.

A Bob Marley-esque beat (reggae) paved way for the chorus, which gave a clear representation of the message being passed. In Pidgin English, 2baba inquired peoples’ ‘Holy Status’. He cited Prophet Elijah and Barrack Obama as his perfectionist examples. It goes thus:

As you dey for there dey claim you holy so

I hope you holy pass Elijah sha

Hope you holy pass the Prophet sha

And as you dey for there dey form Obama so

                           I hope you get all the credential sha                                                                                                     

                                    I hope the people vote you sha

The first verse in this lyrical content talked about how he (2baba) lived his life despite what people said about him.

                                        I just like to keep my head up

                                    There’s no need for compromising

                                     There’s no time so no debating

                                         Just be maintaining the top

                             Motivating, elevating, fortified and visualizing

Despite all these, people are bound to point accusing fingers and try to bring you down so he said:

                               But ah, still they want to run me down

                               Dem (they) only want to see me frown

                                  Dem only want to see me hanging

                                   All the hypocrites and Pharisees

Verse two has some powerful advice against haters. 2baba delivered as his melodious voice resonates with the rhythm. He said:

         As you get opinion make you know say (that) other people get opinion too

                         As you dey do wetin (what) you sabi (can) do

                      Make you know say their opinion no concern you

He continued by explaining celebrity lifestyles and that paved way for the best lines in this content.

                           So he who has no sin should cast the first stone

                          No dey sit down for corner try to dirty my throne

                And anything you yarn (say) 2baba go just dey bone (ignore)

                 Because no be wetin dy for Naija (Nigeria) na em dey for Rome

The aforementioned chorus precedes the third verse which was freestyle. Here, 2baba gave some thoughtful words. He said:

 They go want to boogie down

 But dem (they) no want to

 Have to sacrifice your glory for the crown

So my dear make you no start to frown   

Because anyhow for your life na you be the bigger head.

He continued the freestyle till the beat faded away. Lyricist lounge cannot but relate with these lyrics. The lyricist lounge has made "Holy Holy"  not just a club banger but a message of life. No matter what the haters say, we should all know ‘JahJah (God’s) love is amazing, so let keep on elevating’ as 2baba said in this work.
