HOPE: The Northern star
The struggle for independence brought people together and our demands were non-negotiable.
We had a singular purpose which transcended all the differences in tribes and culture.
Our unity in diversity brought us our freedom. However, with freedom came it's price - Tribalism, mistrust, marginalization all sprung out from our actions.
First came the coup, followed by the civil war which heralded the need for a United nation.
Everything done in time past till now: productive or counterproductive has always been towards it's unity, but our thoughts and minds always longed for that unity that was never replicated since independence.
'The labors of our heroes past' is collectively agreed on, but individually acted upon.
Everyone sees the complications in the myriads of problems, but no one sees the simplicity in the solutions.
Dreams may be damaged, but not destroyed. This independence brings with it a solemn reflection of what we have been through and ignites a sense of hope, however faint it may be.
This is because hope is all we have. It's our Northern star, it's how we find our way back. It's how we make Nigeria our dream home.
Happy Independence Day, Nigeria.
