DO YOU LOVE GREY?THE INTELLIGENT ONES ARE NOT HEARD
I began hearing the saying, "Children are the leaders
of tomorrow" when I became old enough to
understand the English language. So I imagined a future, where I could be a
leader and a change maker.
But as I grew older, I realised that it's nothing but a
fairytale, just like the Cinderella and Snow white's tale.
The reality lies in the fact that this society is built on
falsehood and pretense.
The normality of the anomaly in my society is obscene, to
see children become hawkers, touts and hustlers in a bid to fend for the
family; it's indeed absurd. If you like, ask me how this is my business. I'll
also ask you if our nation's business is not ours.
So recently a boy named Taju, intelligent and confident was
interviewed by someone. He spoke fluent Yoruba and exuded much charisma for a
young boy. He was mocked by everyone who watched the short video that went
viral. People forgot he might never have passed through the corridors of a
school.
I am here to ask you, I mean you. How do you feel when you
see that young boy hawking pure water at your bus stop? What do you think of
that young girl selling orange down your street?
Do you feel pity for them or you simply feel nothing?
You shake your head and mind your business? It seems the
wrong is the normal, right?
"I'm a middle income earner, my salary can hardly feed
me." So you say.
"My problems are larger than Nigeria as a whole, I
can't do a thing for them." You further credit yourself for your
nonchalance.
Permit me to counter your belief for it's time to give a
voice to the voiceless. Do not wait to have millions before you help. Become a
sponsor to a child, partner with a friend or two and send a child to school.
Even if it’s a public school.
It's high time we stopped waiting on the government to solve
our societal problems, after all "This is Nigeria" ask Falz.
I will end this episode of Labels by asking like that
musician did. "Who you epp?"
