TOLU'S DIARY

TUESDAYS 10 AM

Dear diary,

The news we’ve been hearing in our land these days are terrifying and saddening. Don’t worry diary, I’ve got you covered. It's sad as some children drowned by flood in a part of Ogun State; heavy downpour destroyed lives and properties in Kaduna state; windstorm wreaked havoc in Bauchi and people in riverine areas of Ondo State were rendered homeless by overflow of river banks. Environmental disasters are on the rise every day as if it is Armageddon even though the creator has declared not to destroy the world again with flood - I know he’ll never lie.

Human have always pulled the trigger on themselves. Human activities such as bush burning, deforestation, dumping of refuse in drainages and lack of drainage systems in some roads have led us to sitting on kegs of gunpowder. Trees which were meant to break winds are cut down, bushes are burnt leading to erosion. The available drainages are often blocked with garbages and quarry works are having effects on our environment. Environmental laws enacted in these cases should be followed strictly. We shouldn’t just live our lives carelessly. Our government should take a cue from countries overseas and help guide against environmental disasters. Let us join hands to keep our environment safe. I know we can always pray against natural disasters so let us play our part against environmental disasters.

Diary, you don’t have to flinch, we are both under a canopy that cannot be shaken. See you soon diary, love you dearly.
