Abeke is the perfect package - right figure, diction and complexion. Guys you know when you meet a lady and its certain that she is the kind of lady called take-home-to-mama? The correct wife material the whole 6 yards…

Abeke is a prime example. The lady parents extol and tell their daughters to emulate. Do you know my mother once said to me in a fit of anger that she wished Abeke was her daughter? Can you imagine?! Me – Emi!  Why? Simply because I mistakenly talked out of line; is a slip of tongue that bad? I am not perfect o.

Oh, sorry for the digress, it's just that I feel I was unjustly judged and categorized. Hmm, my people the journey of a lifetime begins with a step. That was how it all began for Abeke - our community darling.

She married her Mr. Right 3 years ago. Oh, what a glamorous wedding. The whole community stood to the occasion; I was even a part of the bridal train. Dressed to the teeth, oh yea! ‘gbo-gbo bigs girl; make up on fleek, pepper dem gang all-rounder.

Little did we know that it was the beginning of the end for our dear Abeke who, now is a shadow of herself. A human husk at the edge, weeping with no relief. Who will save our beloved Abeke? The damsel all men wanted; the daughter every parent wished for; The pride of my community.

Life in its own way found Abeke and gave her a dish of pain and affliction. Mr. Right was an untested HIV positive Rhesus D positive while Abeke was HIV negative but Rhesus D negative. All hell was loose when our beloved couple after trying for a child for two and half years, finally got pregnant; oh while still rejoicing at exactly 3 months of pregnancy, Abeke had a miscarriage.  Na so she land for hospital for six good weeks - Abeke was hospitalized.

Somehow, we started hearing rumors of Abeke been an ‘Ogbanje’, so our dear Abeke is an ‘Emere’?! - Evil Child that has planned to die after a short while and never to give birth to a child of her own?

This story should make you worry about the society we live in; I can only tell you that I got the real gist when I visited Mama Abeke who related the actual truth to me and I had no choice but to rush here and tell you THE TRUTH!

See we can continue to rate perfection on a pedestal of fairytales which is the happily ever after; but let’s not assume we know all and see all. Of a surety Abeke failed to know her health status and that of her then fiancé. She never had a good health plan but she did not declare herself an evil or demonic child. We judge what we do not understand and define the undefinable to soothe our view towards life. It's high time this stopped. RUMORS DESTROY LIVES!  Abeke is still in the hospital and we are praying for her.

We hope that this too shall soon be over…
