WEDNESDAYS 9AM
What shall it Profit?
A fruit seller should be wise, and if they lack wisdom,
should ask for it from whatever deity they believe in to grant it them, because
wisdom is proFRUitable. Fruits are perishable goods that do not need to stay
long before becoming unusable and needing to be disposed, but it'd shock you
when you go to buy them from the vendors and they send your two heels matching
faster away from their stand with the exorbitant price tags they've given to
the fruits.
So, the other day, a colleague stopped by a mango seller's
stand to buy some mangoes. The woman insisted on selling one mango for fifty
Naira, two for hundred. All our pleading cum preaching to get her to sell, at
least three for hundred Naira to us, fell on deaf ears. My colleague went ahead
to purchase #500 worth of mangoes, as against the #1000 she had in mind to buy;
she had to get oranges to make up for the quantity. You see, she was going to
visit someone at the hospital, whose favourite fruit happened to be mangoes.
Some days later, on my way to work, I saw the same mango
seller disposing off some now rotten mangoes and I was forced to wonder what
she gained by refusing to sell those mangoes to us, whilst they were still
fresh. She would have gained more money and had less waste. Now, fruit and
money, had she none and what had it proFRUited her to hoard all that fruit and
have them go to waste later? Someone may be led to argue the fact that
she has to make gain by selling above the price she bought, plus the
transportation and so on and so forth. That to me, is lack of wisdom; gaining
some to loose All. I'd rather loose some to gain all.
