TUESDAYS 10AM
Hi diary,
I can see you are already raising your eyebrows. Words
written on this orange diary is soothing, educating and interesting. Last week,
I was watching a football match in a viewing center. My argument there formed
the basis of my reflection for this week. The camera focused on a woman tying
headgears and wearing local attires in the front seat of the stadium. Two guys
at the viewing center laughed scornfully and said ‘’Nigerians are sh*ts, can
you see what she’s putting on?’’ other guys joined to lash the woman on screen
as if she would ever respond to them. ‘’she is the most dressed in there, she
is a Nigerian then why must she dress like a Scottish’’ I argued.
We have sidelined so many things that belonged to us
in exchange for the ‘whites’. We’ve
imported language, religion, dressing, food, etc. and have made us inferior in
many ways. Some guys will even abuse the black players on TV forgetting they
are a replica. Most of us fail to patronize made-in-Naija products even if they
have good qualities yet, we want our economy to rise even when it is not BP. We
laughed at people who failed in speaking English language and even go as far as
creating meme; our only goods we could export on social media.
This generation
hardly know about our heroes past but Abraham Lincoln, Michael Jackson, James
Bond who they claimed to be their relatives from Abakaliki. English is our
national language but how I wish my diary could come in Yoruba with some lines
that will make you dripping like okra soup. I believe in the brand ‘Nigeria’.
Let us do well to grow her by supporting what belongs to us. We have been doing
well but we can still do better. I’m so proud to be from Naija; our land is the
closest to the creator’s abode. Lest I forget diary, I picked ‘agbada gang’ instead of ‘men-in-suit’ for an upcoming wedding.
With my agbada, I can surely pack many goodies under my robes. Now you know
what am saying.
Diary, you look good in this green and white background. Catch
you later guys.
