TOLU'S DIARY

TUESDAY 10AM

Dear diary,
At times I just wish I had enrolled in a fashion school instead of the five years spent in the university. If I had been with sewing machines for these years, who knows if I would have been the next Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce and Gabbana or our very own Yomi Casuals. I have a knack for creativity (drawing and blending of colors) but I pursued a degree in medical sciences. There has been no regret though but I felt I would’ve done better in the other way. The sun out there could still dry clothes as my kinsmen will say.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of young Nigerians enroll for the University Matriculation Examination. Government make millions of naira in this aspect as few percentage will eventually make it to their various institutions of choice and if lucky, get their desired course. At the end of their duration in the University, most of these graduates will still go back home for government interventions so as to get a life. Tens of thousands of graduates every year with few establishments (companies and industries). While few eventually got a job, few became  entrepreneurs, fending for themselves (artistes, internet fraudsters, political machineries, prostitutes etc.) and some still look up to their parents as the author and finisher of their faith.
I suggest government build more technical schools which will be well equipped. Let students learn how to produce (clothes, furniture, automobiles etc.). Outstanding students could be given scholarship abroad to make us producers rather than consumers. Entrepreneurship courses should be taken seriously in institutions (colleges, polytechnics and Universities). I guess this will help to solve the problem of unemployment in our dear nation which will in turn reduce crime rate. Well, diary you never know what is up my sleeves. When there is life, there is surely hope. Since diaries are dated then greater things will be recorded in it. Keep on dreaming guys, we will surely make it. Love you guys, see you again.
