MONDAYS 10 AM |
No One Owes Anything
“The only thing a man
owes another is to objectively show him his options. The choice and results are
his to bear”
– Odigwe Jilams
This
saying is true, but doesn’t mirror present life’s circumstances. Everybody
knows in their hearts that no one not even the universe itself owes them
anything, rather they are adept at playing the victim and persuasively blaming
others for their faults and failures.
It
is absurd to think that the reason for someone’s stagnancy in life is caused by
another’s inactivity in their life. This is like attributing divine attributes
to a mere mortal. What is so specific about a particular individual that
warrants him being looked upon as a god and not you?
As
the quote suggests, the best a man can do for his fellow man is to outline his
options and the path he must follow. His choices and the subsequent results are
his alone to bear. The truth is that if you always have this idea that a
man/woman owes you something, then you are mostly selfish, self-centered and
stingy.
They
forget that those who they pin their hopes on, also have their own hurdles to
overcome. How then will they solve yours when they are not through solving
theirs? That is illogical.
Therefore
friends, it's time to stop believing and acting like the universe or any man is
indebted to you. If for nothing, it is you who owes the universe; to be
productive and leave it better than you met it. Imagine a man being successful
and his friend is not, you may not know how,
but it creates a psychological dilemma on whether he should help you
especially if you are nonchalant or whether he should leave you.
This
life may be hard, but it’s not immune to accomplishment. If possible, create a
picture in your mind, see life as a human being, whose heart was broken and the
ones who enjoyed it are those who had patience, persistence and perseverance
and pampered it with optimism, while those who suffer are those who give up, suffers it’s neglect, anxiety and treat it with pessimism.
When
you do that, you stop thinking of what this world should do for us and start
thinking of how this world can benefit from your existence.
Being
indebted makes you become a slave and it blurs your perception about right or
wrong leaving you in perpetual servitude.
