A Man’s Conviction Is His Greatest Armor And Ally
This topic depicts conviction as a two-fold attribute; an armor to protect yourself from the incoming onslaught of life’s events and an ally when you are all alone.
This conviction presented here is not anywhere close to fanaticism or extremism, but one in which an individual understands what he believes in, can defend what he believes and at the same time respect other peoples’ opinions and beliefs.
According to Skitka and Bauman in their article “Moral conviction and Political engagement” Moral conviction is defined as the strong and absolute belief that something is right or wrong, moral or immoral.
More research into the word “conviction” would see people making theories about the tendencies of people with firm belief to drift towards violence as solution to conflicts.
However, I disagree because conviction acts as a guide for man. It provides him reasons why he and his actions are different from others and also acts as an anchor. Anything more than this is no more than fanaticism, extremism and anarchy.
The world is a very dynamic one today in which rules made for survival and living are very ridiculous. Rules like “The end justifies the means”, “My bad is nothing compared to others’ evil”, “Anyway is a way” etc. are now the norm.
There is no more restraint as people do insane and gruel some things all in the name of “survival” and they call it “hustling”. There is no more distinction between right and wrong and what they fail to understand is that “every cause has more than one effect”, which is to say every action has more than consequences.
So imagine engaging in despicable deeds, the end-result will be disastrous personally from depression, anxiety, paranoia to finally being and feeling abandoned and all alone. Karma will definitely, always and surely serve you back “chilled”.
Someone who has a firm belief and conviction will understand that the end does not always justify the means, that “a good name is better than riches”.
He will therefore strive to maintain that, to engage in what is right at all times despite the pressure and above all peace of mind and conscience. In the end, if things go awry, it is that same belief and conviction that will serve as his anchor and his comforter. Although it may seem difficult to have conviction especially a positive one, it is important for our sanity, our direction and peculiarity among others.
Therefore, in being a man with a firm conviction, you must also endeavor to do what is right because in the end, the right thing always wins, no matter how long it takes.
